  Ma Harper's N'Awlins Creole Kitchen
Ma Harper’s N’Awlins Creole Kitchen

With an unwavering commitment to God and family Alice Harper, better known as Ma Harper, has always been of the belief to give of her service freely and never to expect anything in return.

Born and raised in Louisiana Ma Harper started cooking for church events, clubs, parties, and other organizations at a young age. She married William Harper and after several years in the military he was transferred to San Antonio, at that time Ma started a twenty-one year career for the Civil Service as an aircraft mechanic working on F15’s & F16’s. William and Ma retired from the military and Civil Service respectively and decided to make San Antonio their home.

Since Ma’s arrival to San Antonio she has been featured in “Taste of New Orleans”, “Medina Gumbo Cook-off”, “JazzAlive” and many other festivals throughout the region. Ma has become famous for serving mouth watering delectable’s like Red Beans and Rice, Gumbo, Jambalaya, French Quarter Poor Boys, Peach Cobbler and Sweet Potato Pie – the secret to her success - everything is made from scratch. In 1990, Ma finally decided she needed to venture out from the catering business and opened her first restaurant at 819 S. Pine. In 2003 Ma wanted to capitalize on the tourist industry so she came to the South Texas Business Fund for a $40,000 loan to relocate to 2351 W. Commerce. Today, Ma is serving the Eastside community with her restaurant at 1830 W.W. White Rd. and is committed to a restaurant that specializes in Creole and Cajun cusine.

Ma Harper’s real joy is in her service to God and in all mankind, many times giving of her labor freely and expecting nothing in return. Humble and self-effacing Ma tells everyone “This is Jesus restaurant and He makes everything possible”
